The outside of the purple Bible cover (sold separately) is embossed with this verse:

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:1 NIV

The Women of Faith NIV Study Bible is recommended by our ministry leader Sheree Poole. She loves the purple color and the inside margins for writing. Inspired by her enthusiasm- and the fact that that I like the color purple- I ordered this from Amazon and will use it for my local small group Bible study. My Life Application Study Bible is too heavy to carry outside my office. Although I would have preferred an English Standard Version, I decided to get the New International Version because this is what the Bible study authors often use for their workbook lessons (fill-in-the-blank).

As a devotional, this is pretty, girly and fun. The quotes are inspiring and the devotions are interesting to read. As a study Bible, each book of Scripture begins with “The Women Of..” and names the women in each Book. There are several names I was not familiar with, such as “Barzillai’s Daughter (Book of Nehemiah), Cozbi (Book of Numbers) or Hamutal (Book of Jeremiah).

Upon receiving the Bible, I noticed it was still heavy, even with the paperback cover. The text is printed in purple, and I found this difficult to read at night, though I love the color purple. The lines are spaced fairly close together and the Bible passages are just 2.75 inches wide. (Read that last sentence again) and the margins are 2.5 inches wide, with devotional comments or quotes in those margins. So basically, the pages are 45% scripture. This explains why the Bible is heavier than I expected..as more pages are necessary when scripture is not filling the entire page. Though the pages are thin and the sentences are spaced close together…the margins are wide. Sometimes the devotional leaves little room in the margin, while the pages with quotes have ample space to write in the margins.

This is a pretty, purple-lettering Bible. The focus is women, so if you are seeking a Bible centered on the women of scripture then it’s the right Bible for you! If you are seeking a Bible with more historical context or study notes, then I would suggest a Life Application Study Bible for a deeper study.

This unique Bible features:

  • Over 1,700 Women of Faith study notes
  • Character Sketches of over 75 women of the Bible
  • ‘Enjoying God’ Studies that reveal deep meanings and applications
  • Book Introductions exploring the actions of and pertinent information about women in each Bible book
  • Women in Jesus’ Family Tree sections examining a careful selection of women in the Messianic line
