Fulfilled, NIV Devotional Bible For the Single Woman (Book Review)

fulfilledFulfilled, NIV Devotional Bible For the Single Woman by Zondervan is designed and written by single Christian women for single women. This Bible includes 104 devotionals for single women, quotations about the issues of single living, 200 highlighted Bible passages and 19 profiles of single, Biblical women. Twenty-two single women contributed to the writings in this devotional Bible, including authors Lisa Harper, Luci Swindoll and Mary Hollingsworth.

I have the hardcover version of this Bible. The beginning of each Biblical book is highlighted with a teal-blue, grunge style text box. It’s really pretty and adds to the beauty of the printed Bible. Chapter descriptions are printed in bold type with the same teal color. The devotionals are individual pages with a teal sidebar box, quote, and graphic image of a flower. Very feminine and pretty! Individual pages are devoted to Biblical women, such as Naomi. The page includes key scriptures, meaning of her name, story setting and “her single significance.” In the case of Naomi, “Facing a triple tragedy, Naomi produced extraordinary loyalty, love and faithfulness in her daughters-in-law.” Her name means “pleasant or my joy” and the setting is “Bethlehem in Judah.” I found the detailed information to be useful to understanding her role in history. The end of the Bible includes a table of weights and measures, a topical index and an index of devotionals. I would have liked to see an index of the single women from the Scriptures.

I really like the Fulfilled, NIV Devotional Bible For the Single Woman  and although I’ve been married 22+ years, I find the Bible useful as a womens ministry leader and also as the mother of two daughters. It’s encouraging to see how God’s story makes use of singleness and brings women to the center of His story. The New International Version (NIV) format is written in easy to understand language, rather than in the original language such as the ESV or NASB. I personally use many different translations for my Bible studies.

I received this book free from the Amazon Vine Program. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
